So after a lovely week in Paris I finally made my epic return to Spain :) I stayed in Salamanca for two weeks and got to see some old friends. I also did a few quick trips. One to Alba de Tormes, a really small Castilian town where St. Teresa of Avila is buried; there are also the ruins of an old castle and the tower is still standing. I got there later in the afternoon and my camera takes horrible pictures in churches, so what pictures I do have did not turn out very well. The pictures worth showing to you all are the photos from my trip to Burgos which is another Castilian town that is famous for its beautiful Cathedral. Since it’s about the size of Salamanca, and is really only known for its Cathedral, I stopped by the tourism office to get a map and see about what other cool stuff there is. From the tourism office I made my way to the Cathedral. Along the way there were a bunch of random statues that I found all over the town.
In the plaza by the Cathedral you see one of these statues of a pilgrim on his way to Santiago de Compostela. He bears the traditional signs of a pilgrim, the scallop shell of Santiago, typically used to drink water or as a bowl, a hollowed gourd used to drink wine or beer, and a walking stick.
While in the plaza I noticed an arch that appeared to be an old entrance to the town.
This is what I found on the other side....
Since they charged 5 euro to enter the Cathedral, I didn’t actually go it, but I did take a walk around and took a lot of pictures...
After exploring the Cathedral, I decided to make my way up to the castle and check out the view…
I ate a packed lunch near the castle then headed back down to explore Burgos a little more, have a hot chocolate, and make my way back to the bus to take me to the train to take me back to Salamanca :)
